Cold Press Watercolour Print – 50 × 50 cm (315 gsm)
by Thomas
This piece showcases a natural collage of crustose lichens, resilient organisms that grace the weathered surface of a coastal rock. The rock, likely sandstone or shale characteristic of the Bristol Channel shores, bears a textured mosaic of greenish, reddish, and black patches formed by mature lichen growths. These lichens, through their symbiotic partnership of fungi and algae, thrive amid marine spray and tidal ebb, silently contributing to the slow artistry of rock weathering and sustaining coastal ecosystems. The deliberately minimalistic composition, enhanced by abstract geometric shapes in red and blue, amplifies the intrinsic colours and textures, offering viewers a serene yet complex study of nature’s quiet persistence.
